Why is my website not ranking on Google in Dubai? (And how to fix it)

When a business website does not show up on Google in Dubai, the cause is almost always one of seven things, and they are not equally likely. Most guides list them all at once. That is not much help, because the fix for a site Google has not indexed is completely different from the fix for a site on page five.

So this guide works like a diagnosis. Start with the first check, and only move on when it passes. Each step tells you how to recognise the problem and what fixes it, and links to the longer guide where we have one.

You will need Google Search Console, which is free. If your site is not in it yet, set it up first. Almost every check below starts there.

1. Is Google indexing your pages at all?

Search Google for site:yourdomain.ae. If nothing comes back, or only the home page, the problem is not ranking — Google has not added your pages to its index, so they cannot rank for anything.

In Search Console, open the Pages report. "Discovered – currently not indexed" means Google knows the URL exists but has not judged it worth fetching yet. That is common for new sites and is fixed by stronger internal links and links from other sites, not by resubmitting. "Crawled – currently not indexed" means Google read the page and decided not to keep it, which usually points to thin or duplicate content (step 5).

Submit an XML sitemap that lists only your real, indexable pages, and use the URL Inspection tool to request indexing for your most important ones. Then give it a few weeks.

2. Is something on the site telling Google to stay away?

This is the most painful cause because it is invisible and self-inflicted. A noindex tag left on from the staging site. A robots.txt that blocks the folder your pages or stylesheets live in. A canonical tag on every page pointing at the home page. A redirect chain that ends in an error.

URL Inspection on any page shows what Google sees: whether indexing is allowed, the canonical Google chose, and whether the page could be fetched. If Google picked a different canonical from the one you set, it believes the page duplicates another one.

Use clean, readable URLs (/en/services/web-development, not ?p=482) and make sure the site loads over HTTPS without certificate warnings. These are not ranking tricks; they are the minimum for being taken seriously.

3. Can Google see your Arabic pages?

Dubai searches in two languages, and many sites only exist to Google in one. The usual cause is a translation widget or plugin that swaps the text in the browser without giving the Arabic version its own URL. Google indexes URLs, so if there is no Arabic URL, there is no Arabic page to rank.

The fix is structural: each language at its own address (/en/ and /ar/, for example), each page linking to its counterpart with hreflang tags, and Arabic written for Arabic searchers rather than machine-translated. The full method is in bilingual RTL web design, and how Arabic searches are actually phrased in Arabic keyword research.

This is also the step with the most upside. Fewer businesses do Arabic properly, so a well-built Arabic page often faces less competition than its English twin.

4. Are you looking at the map, or at the website results?

For searches like "web design Dubai" or anything "near me", Google shows a map with three businesses above the normal results. That map is a separate race, and it is decided mainly by your Google Business Profile, your reviews, and distance — how close your address is to the person searching.

Distance is the part you cannot fake. A business with its address in Abu Dhabi will struggle to appear in the Dubai map pack however good its profile is, and a virtual-office address to get around that breaks Google’s rules and risks the whole profile. If you have a real Dubai address, the profile is where to start: Google Business Profile in the UAE covers it step by step.

If you do not, the website results below the map are still open to you. That is where a genuinely useful page about serving Dubai earns its place — which is what local SEO for Dubai and Abu Dhabi explains.

Keep your business name, address and phone number identical on your site, your profile and every directory. Small differences split the signal.

5. Do your pages actually answer the search?

A 300-word service page that says "best agency in Dubai" four times does not rank any more, and it should not. Google is trying to show the page that best answers what the person typed. If yours describes you instead of answering them, a competitor’s page that answers them will win.

Look at the first page of results for the search you want. If it is full of guides and price breakdowns, a sales page will not get in. Match the kind of page Google is already rewarding, then do it better: real prices or price ranges, the steps, the timeline, the questions buyers actually ask.

One strong page per topic beats five thin ones that compete with each other. If you have several pages chasing the same search, merge them.

6. Does anyone else link to you?

A new site with good pages and no links from anywhere else is the most common "it is all done but nothing happens" case. Links from relevant, real websites are still how Google decides which of several good pages to trust.

For a UAE business, the realistic sources are local and earned: business directories and chambers of commerce, industry associations, suppliers and partners, clients who will mention the project, and local media. Bought links and link packages are a risk, not a shortcut.

This is slow. A new domain typically needs three to six months of steady work before it holds meaningful positions for competitive searches in Dubai.

7. Is the site slow on a phone?

Most people in the UAE find you on a phone, and Google judges your site on its mobile version. Speed rarely lifts a page that fails the steps above, but a slow site loses close contests and loses the visitors who do arrive.

The usual fixes are unglamorous: compress images and serve them in modern formats such as WebP, lazy-load what is below the fold, and cut the scripts and plugins you do not need. Search Console’s Core Web Vitals report shows which pages are slow for real visitors.

Server location matters less than people think. What counts is how fast the page reaches the visitor. A CDN or a regional cloud data centre helps with that, but moving servers will not rescue a page that fails on content or links.

SEO, ads, or both while you fix it

Organic rankings take months; Google Ads can put you on the first page this week. If you need enquiries now, running a small, tightly targeted ads campaign while the fixes above take effect is reasonable — as long as you treat it as a bridge, not a replacement. The trade-off is set out in SEO vs paid ads in the UAE.

At SmartTech Studio we build websites with the technical foundations above in place from day one, bilingual and fast, and run SEO and ads for UAE businesses from AED 1,500 a month. If your site is not showing up, we can tell you which of these seven it is.

The bottom line

Work through the checks in order: indexed, not blocked, Arabic visible, map or organic, pages that answer the search, links, speed. Most sites that "do not rank" in Dubai fail one of the first three, and those are the cheapest to fix.

FAQ

How long does it take a new website in Dubai to rank on Google?

Pages can be indexed within days or weeks, but holding meaningful positions for competitive searches usually takes three to six months of steady work on content and links. Less competitive and Arabic searches often move sooner.

Why does my site rank in Abu Dhabi or Sharjah but not in Dubai?

Google adjusts local results to where the searcher is. If your business address and profile are in another emirate, you will appear more readily near it. A real Dubai address helps in the map; without one, a genuinely useful page about serving Dubai is how you compete in the website results.

Does hosting my site in the UAE improve my rankings?

Not directly. Server location is a minor signal at most; a .ae domain, Arabic and English pages for UAE searchers, and your business details tell Google far more about where you serve. Hosting close to your visitors, or using a CDN, does make pages load faster, and speed helps.

My site gets visitors but no enquiries. Is that an SEO problem?

Usually not. Either the traffic is for searches that do not match what you sell, or the pages make it hard to contact you. Check which searches bring visitors in Search Console, and make sure every page has a clear, mobile-friendly way to call, WhatsApp or send a message. The other common causes are in why a website gets visitors but no leads.

Should I do SEO or run Google Ads?

If you need enquiries now, ads bring them while SEO builds. If you can wait a few months, SEO keeps working without paying per click. Many UAE businesses run both for a period and shift budget towards SEO as organic traffic grows.
